Roadmap: Account Subdomains and the Bigger Picture

January 13, 2015

Caspio-Roadmap-Subdomain-FeaturedAt Caspio, one particular area of focus on our product roadmap is to make complex applications easier to create and deploy. Achieving this vision requires significant overhaul in three major areas:

  • User Management
  • DataPage Creation
  • Deployment Models

In this article, we would like to share some upcoming plans regarding the last item: Deployment Models.

Ultimately, we would like to reach a point where an entire application can be deployed easily and with the fewest possible steps. A big part of this will involve a new feature called “Account Subdomains,” which is currently under development and the first phase of it will be available very soon.

With Account Subdomains, each account will have its own unique Caspio.com subdomain. All account logins will be assigned to a subdomain, but more importantly, all application deployments will use this subdomain in the deploy code.

Let’s break this feature down further to understand how it works and how it will benefit you.

When fully implemented, Account Subdomains will allow you to customize your own Caspio subdomain. For example, if your company is called ACME INC, you could request acmeinc.caspio.com as your subdomain. This URL will become the root of all your deployed Caspio apps. Once you sign into Caspio, you will be able to set the deployment of multiple applications on this subdomain and additionally configure your navigation menu, branding and style. You will no longer be required to have a website to deploy your apps and the process of copying-and-pasting the deploy code will also be eliminated.

The end result is that you will have a Caspio-powered website to serve your apps, hosted securely with SSL and all other best practices, while Caspio maintains the infrastructure and backend for you. App deployment will become as simple as a click-of-a-button.

Aside from the ease of deployment and management, having an account-specific subdomain also provides other advantages. One major benefit is that your account will become portable across the Caspio infrastructure, meaning that you could request your account to be migrated across several data centers around the globe, or from a standard environment to a HIPAA-compliant infrastructure. With Account Subdomains, these migrations will no longer require redeployment of all your DataPages since our engineering team will be able to seamlessly migrate everything for you.

In the first phase of Account Subdomains (coming up soon), a generic dedicated Caspio subdomain will be assigned to every account. The ability to customize your own subdomain will be released at a later time.
