My name is Michael Fabac. I’m a news director at WCMH-TV, an NBC affiliate. We’re in Columbus, Ohio, which is the 32nd largest market in the country.
As a news director, my job is to make sure that we’re addressing the audience on all the platforms. Mobile, with how it’s exploding, is huge. Digital, of course, with people at work, and then tying it all back together with a traditional broadcast schedule.
What I like about Caspio, in particular, is the fact that it allows us to get really local with stories.
Putting a story online for us is a huge part of what we’re trying to do to differentiate what we do for the reader online. It gives us the ability to pull in data, parse it how we want it, and then present it so that we can put it specifically for the online audience.
One of the things that we like to do is cross-promote on broadcasts.
So, to be able to show a specific point of data that’s from the website article on TV is a great way to enhance the broadcast part. But then also drive people over to the digital side, so that they can experience the story in that unique way over there as well.
The speed and ease of use of the product is also one of the big points that’s a big deal in our newsroom. We’ve got a relatively small web team where everybody contributes.
Having the ability for our web team to work directly with a journalist in the field, not need to worry about getting IT involved, and be able to take elements of a story and craft it uniquely online is a huge selling point and very popular with our audience.
