Mountain View, Calif. - August 7, 2007 - Caspio, Inc. (www.caspio.com), the leader in point-and-click web database creation, today announced the recent launch of a popular database published on jacksonville.com providing information on local-area restaurant violations.
The Florida Times-Union, a Morris Communications newspaper, built and deployed the web-based application using the Caspio Bridge framework for rapid online database publishing. The data, obtained from state authorities, reports on local restaurant inspections and food violations. Using Caspio's interactive wizards, The Florida Times-Union staff imported the data into their Caspio Bridge online account and built a web-based searchable database application in minutes that they then deployed on jacksonville.com.
"We launched our restaurant violations database mid-afternoon on Friday and the audience loved it immediately," said Joe Black, news producer at The Florida Times-Union. "By 10 a.m. on Monday the application had generated 125,000 page views, making it in the top 15 overall pages viewed in the month of June."
The newspaper updates the database every other week, which is also linked from each of its online community sites, according to Black. The paper also promotes the online database from its print edition, which carries a list of the restaurants with the best and worst inspection reports. Black estimates that they have received approximately 400,000 page views since the database was launched in June.
"Joe and his staff are continually exploring opportunities to publish databases on jacksonville.com," adds Steven Metzinger, New Media Director at The Florida Times-Union. "We are committed to using Caspio as often as possible, and most importantly, reader response has been overwhelmingly positive. Database publishing with Caspio has quickly earned a permanent place in our everyday efforts."
